The Bridge Theatre Company, a New York City ensemble of Canadian and American theater artists dedicated to the cross-border development of new plays, will be presenting Toronto native Kate Hewlett’s The Swearing Jar, winner of the 2008 Toronto Fringe Festival Best of Fringe and Best Ensemble, as part of the 14th annual New York International Fringe Festival - FringeNYC.
Under Rosemary Andress’ direction, Kate Hewlett (pictured) and Christopher Stanton reprise their award-winning roles as Simon and Carey, a seemingly perfectly married couple, in this smart comedy about marriage, music, migraines...and swearing. When the play premiered at the 2008 Toronto Fringe, it received five-stars from Eye Weekly and was named Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Production by NOW Magazine. Bryant Park Word for Word: Canadian Poets Presents Poetry

The Bryant Park summer literary series, Word for Word, will feature an all-star cast of some of Canada’s finest, award-winning poets. The lineup includes:
A.F. Moritz (Canadian winner of the 2009 Griffin Poetry Prize);
Ken Babstock (Babstock’s, Airstream Land Yacht, won the Trillium Book Award);
Karen Solie (Canadian winner of the 2010 Griffin Poetry Prize);
Matthew Tierney (2006 recipient of a K.M. Hunter Award);
David Seymour (Shortlist for the Gerald Lampert Award, 2005).
Participating poets will be introduced by Molly Peacock, American poet and editor of Tightrope’s The Best Canadian Poetry Series, an anthology of Canadian poetry in which all of the above authors appear.

Barenaked Ladies

Over the course of the past 21 years, Canada’s Barenaked Ladies (BNL) have racked up eight Juno Awards (Canada’s Grammy equivalent) and multiple Grammy nominations, sold more than 14 million albums worldwide, written a plethora of hit singles, and amassed an international fan base numbering in the millions. All in Good Time, BNL’s first album since the departure of the band’s co-founding member Steven Page, recently debuted at number 1 on Billboard’s Top Independent Album Chart and number 23 on the Billboard Top 200. According to the Globe and Mail, on their new album, “the Barenaked Ladies sound more like a band than ever before.” The group headlines the Radio City Music Hall stage along with openers Ben Kweller and Angel Taylor. Gifted New York-based Québécoise choreographer Noémie Lafrance brings her internationally acclaimed dance piece MELT to New York audiences for a two-week run. With this full, evening-length version, the critically lauded choreographer invites audiences to a stunning industrial salt-storage site located under the Manhattan Bridge in Lower Manhattan. Performed in the midst of the NYC summer heat, MELT will embody its full meaning, as seven dancers perched on small seats affixed to a wall and wrapped in sculptural beeswax and lanolin perform as their costumes slowly melt away.
